Aluminum can do more

Aluminum is naturally soft and insufficiently protected against weather and mechanical stress.
The anodized layer provides a high surface hardness and excellent corrosion protection with outstanding dimensional stability. We also process aluminum alloys such as AlZnMgCu1.5, AlMgCuPb, AlCuMg1-2, etc., which are considered difficult or impossible to anodize. However, they are preferred by mechanical workshops because of their good machinability and strength.
Our standard color spectrum includes black, red, blue, titanium, orange and gold. Special colors are available on request.
Our strength is the processing of high-quality items. We use the latest spectral photometers to ensure color reproducibility.

Because we can.

We can only achieve a consistently high quality standard by maintaining the stability of all process and bath parameters. Continuous in-house analysis of all process steps, PLC-controlled processes, a well-coordinated team and our unique plano ERP system are reflected in the highest possible quality.

We are also one of the few companies worldwide to have the IHAA Type II label for our anodized coatings!

The process behind it

Before the actual anodization can take place, the workpieces are contacted on titanium frames. They are then degreased in a weakly alkaline cleaning bath. Depending on the customer’s specifications, further chemical pretreatments such as matt pickling or chemical polishing may be carried out. The electrolytic oxidation of the aluminum takes place in a sulfuric acid solution (electrolyte) under the influence of direct current; the workpiece is anodically connected (> anodizing). The aluminum is artificially oxidized to Al2O3. Since we transform the base material and do not coat it (as in chrome plating), the properties of the alloy used are incorporated into the end result. We individually parameterize the anodizing parameters for each alloy. We refine high-performance materials using special processes. This enables us to provide these with a decorative oxide layer of excellent quality. Since anodic layers are microporous, color pigments can be incorporated as per customer request. During the final compression, the dye is sealed in and the material achieves the maximum possible corrosion protection.

Details:

We finish all common wrought alloys. Chemical polishing is only possible on copper-free materials.

Material recommendation

The anodized layers grow to approx. 1/3 of their total layer thickness beyond the base surface (see sketch on the right). A 25 µm layer therefore means a growth of approx. 8 µm (16 µm on the diameter!).

Depending on the type of material used and the requirements, layers of 5 to 25 µm are common.
The effective layer hardnesses are highly dependent on the material used. They range between 250 and 300 MHV 0.025.
